Yellow is, at the best of times, a tough colour to wear without it wearing you instead. I, personally, love yellow in and of itself, but definitely draw the line when it comes to covering my whole body in the brashness of it. Here’s where accessories come in handy, as you can see above – I added a bright yellow bead necklace to a simple black and white dress. It draws attention to your face and makes an ordinary outfit extraordinary. Choosing the right shade isn’t as important when it’s such a small quantity – you can get away with a little mismatch. With a top or a dress it could be a disaster to have the wrong tone for your skin.
Another way to use the same necklace is with a dress that has of a touch of yellow in it; perhaps a band of yellow on the sleeves, or in the pattern or as a border. It could even be a pocket detail. The advantage of this is that the yellow doesn’t even have to match… just being the same colour family is enough.
Scarves from my Midnight Collection are a very easy way to inject a little bold colour into your outfits. A simple kerchief knotted at the wrist adds a pop of yellow into your day without screaming “I’m following a trend” at everyone in the office. If you’re wearing a suit, this could just as easily be popped into the breast pocket as a pocket square.
A scarf need not be completely yellow either… here’s a 90cm square one that’s simply draped but very effective.
The same style of scarf can be tied in many different ways, to be as simple or as complex as you wish. You can definitely combine yellow with dark plain colours too – this actually creates a very striking look without being over the top.
I hope I’ve helped you be more confident about wearing this bold colour. Here are some of the necklaces and scarves featured in this post, available to purchase at AratiDevasher.co.uk. Have you now been inspired to add a dash of Daffodil yellow to your own wardrobe? Comment below and tell me.
