winter style: how to style the mustard trend for work

How to Style the Mustard Trend for WorkArati Devasher yellow scarf

The mustard trend – love it or hate it? Personally, I love yellow in any shape or form, and am delighted to see that it’s back in fashion, particularly for Spring 2018, worn both on and off the runway by celebrities and common folk alike. Here in London, though, it’s cold, windy and still very much winter. The daffodils are out already, though, so don’t hesitate to add some mustard to your wardrobe even though it’s still freezing. Goodness knows we need some bright mustard trousers in our lives while we deal with the grey weather.

I’d tone down this naturally warm colour with a cool grey cashmere jumper – it’s winter-appropriate and makes the colourful trousers more office-friendly too; tuck it in to highlight the lovely tie-waist of those bottoms. Adding the Summer Noon silk scarf around your neck will tie in the colour of the trousers, giving a high-end feel to the high-street look and adding colour near your face to bring the attention back up there. Wearing black or navy accessories with this outfit might seem natural, but I’d pair another extremely trendy colour with it – deep burgundy patent leather bag and low-heeled pointy-toe pumps. Minimal rose gold jewellery in the form of pearl earrings and delicate bracelet add the finishing touches.

The highlight of this outfit is the deep yellow or mustard – the reddish tones in the silk scarf (available here) tie in the burgundy shoes and bag, and the cool grey jumper takes the brightness down a notch, making it possible to wear to work. Wear your hair simply, and you’re ready to go. Don’t forget to throw on a warm coat for the journey to work, though! Stay warm until Spring actually gets here.

winter style: 7 ways to wear a silk scarf with a jumper dress

winter style: 7 ways to wear a scarf with a jumper dress | arati devasher painted silk accessories, london

On days when I don’t know what to wear, I automatically reach for a jumper dress. This burgundy jumper dress from .Object with the fun frills on the cuffs is my current favourite. I’ve paired it with comfy but stylish wedge heel knee boots from M&S.

What makes the outfit stand out, however, is the way the Sunset Waters silk scarf can be styled with it in several different ways. This would be a great combination to wear to a winter wedding (or dare I say it so soon – a Valentine’s day date) yet it’s also appropriate to wear to work.

I made this one-of-a-kind pure silk scarf in a traditional Japanese tie-dye technique called Shibori. You’ll love this scarf because it’s a versatile pattern that can be combined with many different outfits. It’s available to purchase at aratidevasher.co.uk.

Do comment and let me know if you try any of these styles. I’d love to hear from you.

P.S. You might notice I’m wearing black tights in the photographs… that’s because I’m always cold. There is also a hidden thermal top under that elegant jumper dress, and the silk scarf adds warmth when worn close around the neck!

winter style: how to wear grey and camel in cold weather

Camel has been a popular colour over the last few years, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. A camel or tan coat, boots and bag will go with anything and everything, in every season. When in doubt, accessorise with tan is my motto. I love the texture in this LK Bennett dress and the smoothness of Dune’s leather boots, Mansur Gavriel bag and soft camel coat by Karen Millen contrasts beautifully with it. Add my gorgeous Salmon Run peach silk scarf to the mix, and you’ll make a statement wherever you go. The chunky gold bracelet from Philippe Audibert will top off this classic look.

How do you style camel or tan in your wardrobe? Comment below and tell me. I’d love to hear.

autumn style: brightening up hump day in yellow

Where has the time gone? It’s November already, and we’re heading into the depths of winter in a mere thirty days or so. Now, what better way to brighten up hump day – Wednesday, the dreary mid-week grim  day – than by wearing bright yellow paired with the complementary Tick Tock scarf in black, white and red to tie in the black tights, bag and shoes.

autumn style: knee boots and a shift dress

Having worn my current knee-high boots for five autumn and winter seasons, it’s time to look for a new pair. That got me thinking about what to pair with a great pair of boots, and the ultimate for autumn (or fall if you’re in the Americas) is a neutral toned shift dress with bright lipstick and a universally versatile geometric silk scarf.

autumn style: a classic burgundy shade for fall

Red and burgundy are classic autumn colours. Mimicking the colours of fallen leaves, they bring to mind cosy, festive events and a feeling of warmth in the gloom of approaching winter. Pair cool blues and greens to bring out the deepest tones, and add light grey or white accessories so you don’t look bogged down.

autumn style: what to wear to work on a monday

It can be really depressing when you have an office job and need to decide what to wear to work on a Monday, especially in a job that requires you to wear ‘formal’ clothes. That doesn’t mean you can’t be stylish, or that you must wear one of those (in my opinion) hideous ‘women’s suits’. Dress simply in a black dress, tights and oxfords. Add simple jewellery that doesn’t make too much of a statement. Add a great looking leather bag. The final touch for a bit of colour and classic style is a scarf that goes well with your bag, and well manicured nails. Dressing well is going to make you feel great about having to start the work week after a fabulous weekend.
